Arthritis Animation

(Depending on size)

  • This 2D animation shows the normal anatomy of a joint and the development of degenerative joint disease, or osteoarthritis.
  • With repetitive use over time, joint cartilage begins to degenerate, resulting in pain and joint dysfunction for the patient. The loss of cartilage can result in bony spur formation in the joint space. In severe arthritis, there is a complete loss of cartilage, which causes friction between the bones and results in pain at rest or limited motion.
  • Age, injury, and obesity can contribute to the development of this condition.
