Atrial Fibrillation Animation
- Atrial fibrillation occurs when the electrical activity of the heart becomes uncoordinated. The electrical impulse travels chaotically to the atria, causing them to quiver rather than contract; this causes the ventricles to contract irregularly as well.
- This condition can result in static blood flow, which encourages clot formation. This is especially dangerous if clots form in the left atrium where they can travel directly up into the brain and cause an embolic stroke.
